A Study of the Role of an Input-Based Speech Community in the TV Series, Good Witch

The purpose of the paper is to study EFL students’ reaction toward concept a speech community reflected in TV series. Three non-English major students were recruited for study. Each student was provided with four different drama clips which represent communities. Speech communities provide L2 learners linguistic and cultural knowledge that helps people socialize others (Schmid, 2016). After participants went through L1 translation activities helped them increase their awareness what an is, given two tests (memorization selection relevant expressions) one written interview. results indicated speed all three participants’ memorization better after instruction they also selected more expressions on interview test. In interview, showed positive attitudes about use community. Such have potential pedagogical implications classrooms. First, brings abundant context scene help memorization, provides salience expressions; consequently can pick up desirable expressions. Second, integrate both language matters simultaneously.
